A traditional Provençal "lucky charm", for hanging near the entrance door of the house or in the kitchen.
Ours were born in Vallauris, where the Gullo family has hand-painted their ceramic body with beautiful sun or lavender designs.
By the way, a cicada is a "She" in France. Although, I guess, there must be some "He" cicadas too, considering the swarming number of them colonising the pine trees of Provence every year ! |
